Mermaid Cloth Diaper Burp Cloths

04/22/2017

Soothe baby with these easy and adorable cloth diaper burp cloths.  They are my absolute favorite handmade gift to make.  I wish I knew about the versatility of cloth diapers when my boys were little.  We only used pre-folds for little bums.

You can grab a pack of cloth diapers anywhere baby clothes are found, just make sure they are the premium cloth diapers rather than the 3-ply gauze diapers.  The cotton twill or bamboo diapers are much more absorbent and softer on baby’s skin.  They work great for cleaning cloths once you are out of the baby phase.

These directions are universal with the use of a cutting machine or without.  Just replace the directions and use a stencil or print out and a sharp pair of scissors to cut out your design.

Supplies:
cloth diapers
fabric
fusible interfacing (Heat ‘n Bond ultra)

Directions:

Iron the fabric onto the fusible interfacing according to the package instructions. Make sure you use the ultrahold, no-sew interfacing. This creates the stability needed for the cutting machine to do its work.

Import or create your design in the cutting machine software.

Place your fabric Heat n’ Bond side down onto the mat.  Use a brayer to ensure everything is flat.

Program your machine to cut fabric.  Adjust the dial depending on the thickness of your fabric.  tip: Use and label a blade for fabric cutting only.  It’s very important your blade is sharp to prevent any pulling and a complete cut is made.

Remove the cut from the mat and place interfacing down onto the center of the cloth diaper. Press and hold medium heat iron on each section for 8 seconds.  Repeat until entire project is bonded.

Package up a few handmade cloth diaper burp cloths and a little something from the registry for the ultimate baby shower gift.

I absolutely adore these! I’d love to make them for my great niece but, by the time I get my hand reconstructive surgery done and all healed, I’d probably be better off making a mermaid outfit or blanket because she’ll be beyond burp cloths…
I’m going to bookmark this on my phone and search for the cartridge for my cricut though.
