We have tall doors in our house and lots of windows. This limits the space we can place furniture and hang decor so I’m on a mission to find unique ways to personalize our home. This farmhouse inspired pantry sign was one of the first projects I completed, and remains a favorite 3 years later. I found the perfect sized pre-made sign at Hobby Lobby. Should you need to DIY your own custom size, Shanty Chic has an easy tutorial.
You’re just 3 steps away from a custom farmhouse inspired sign: stain, paint, personalize!
DIY Farmhouse Inspired Sign
Start by masking off the trim, stain the frame with your preferred color. If you’re assembling your own sign go ahead and stain and paint before assembling. Remove the masking tape, allow trim to dry.
Mask off the trim so you can paint the back board. Paint, then remove the tape.
While your project board dries prepare your lettering. I went the vinyl route and cut out on my Cricut. You can also use stencils, buy vinyl letters, or create your own stencil on the Cricut.
Transfer your letters and burnish them onto your completed project board.
Lastly, attach picture hangers to the back.
Hang it on the wall for an easy decor piece. You could even make one for the powder room or laundry room. It’s become a statement piece in our home and gets compliments and commentary with each new guest. There’s definitely no question where to find the snacks!
A year after I made the pantry sign I finally made another dream come true with an oversized chalkboard. This was also an easy DIY project that has quickly taken the lead for favorite project. Every new season and occasion becomes a battle for who era to customize the art.
Here it is at Christmastime.
