Planning a BrainStrong Pregnancy

08/24/2012

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

I learned the hard way the importance of healthy living while pregnant.  With my first I had no morning sickness and all my screenings were perfect.  With this baby my second trimester glucose test came back normal, but I was put onto iron due to anemia.  Nothing a little iron supplement can’t fix, but in the meantime I suffered from major fatigue.

I don’t know about you, but one of my biggest concerns while pregnant is providing enough nutrients for my growing baby.  With our increased need for iron, calcium, and other important nutrients it’s sometimes hard to fit it all in, and keep track.

These tips help me make sure I’m eating a diet full of brain building and body building nutrients.

  • Plan out your dinners.  When you’re tired and coming home from work, last thing you want to be doing is running by the grocery store to pickup ingredients.  And lets be honest most of us would just resort to take out.
  • Pack lunches and snacks the night before.  In fact package your snacks as soon as you get them home from the store.  This makes it easy to grab something nutrient rich when you need a little snack.
  • Keep foods like baby bell peppers, carrots, popcorn, and pretzels on hand.  They make a great snack and are filling too.  Pickout some of your favorite fats to keep on hand for dipping.  Some of my favorites are ranch, peanut butter, and Nutella.
With all this planning though most of us need the support of a good prenatal multivitamin and usually an Omega with DHA.  Did you know that 70% of energy supplied during pregnancy is used for brain development.  It’s no wonder that DHA deficiencies in mom can affect brain development directly.
BrainStrong was created to provide women with a more complete prenatal multi vitamin.  It has the highest level of folic acid and DHA available for an over the counter vitamin.  That’s up to 75% more DHA than other leading OTC prenatal vitamins.  And with a price tag that’s less than most copays it’s a great option for many women.
