We took a short drive to Madera Canyon last weekend. We’ve been many times, but there were tons of firsts on this outing. As we were entering the Forest, out on the main stretch of road, we were greeted by a family of deer. There was even a little fawn. We always see lots of birds, but JD really liked this bright blue fella. My favorite, and I think Aiden’s too, was the large Tom Turkey. We heard him as soon as we parked. Just out about 100 feet from where we parked. We got in fairly close and he stayed with us throughout our trip.
Aiden loved getting out and exploring. Our first big hike without the backpack. He was such a good boy. He held our hands the whole time and didn’t stray too far. He loved finding rocks, climbing rocks, jumping off rocks. Rocks were pretty big this time.
We were surprised to stumble upon parts of the creek still running. The water was cold, but he loved getting his toes in the sand and finding little floating treasures.
We will definitely be heading back up there soon. Hoping the water will still be running. About this time in our trip our friend the Turkey had followed us all the way. We could see and here him just across the street on the ridge. Excited to go back and see if he’s waiting for us.
