While we just finished potty training our youngest, the struggle with nighttime wetting continues.  We’ve come to realize quickly that bedwetting can’t be trained away.  It’s something our boys will simply outgrow, but that doesn’t mean wet nights.  With the help of GoodNites and a few simple tips we’re surviving nights and our boys are getting a restful sleep.

Easy Bedside Organizer + Nighttime Wetting Survival Tips. ad #RestEasySolutions

  • Avoid big drinks several hours before bedtime; we make dinnertime the cutoff.
  • Wake your child a couple hours after bedtime for a potty break.
  • Take bathroom breaks several times leading up to bedtime.
  • Use waterproof GoodNites Bed Mats to cut down on sheet changes. They’re made with plush layers, and lock in odor.
  • Encourage your child to go to the bathroom as soon as they wake up.

Part of our nighttime routine is giving them the confidence to do things on their own.  I created this easy bedside pocket organizer for our oldest to keep all his bedtime essentials close at hand.  The large pockets are perfect for holding PJs and bedtime pants.  While the smaller ones hold onto his books, kleenex, and a flashlight.

The following measurements will give you a long pocket perfect for attaching to a bedside rail. You can of course adjust these measurements to meet your needs. If you are going to tuck under a mattress you might need to adjust the pocket depth depending on the height of your bed.

Hem the top of both pocket pieces.

bedside-pocket-step-1
Stack the three pieces together, with the pockets along the right of the longest piece.  Fold the left side of the long piece on top of the pocket pieces, pin in place.

bedside-pocket-step-2
Sew along the the bottom and outside edges with a 1/4″ seam.

bedside-pocket-step-3
Flip the pocket right side out.

bedside-pocket-step-4
Sew one long stitch down the center of both pockets. Stop at the top of the tall pocket making sure to back stitch several times to create a strong seam.

bedside-pocket-step-6
Sew a couple more stitches down the smaller pocket only. This will create a great spot for holding smaller items like glasses, remotes, or a flashlight.

bedside-pocket-step-7
Fold in the top, iron, and sew a 1/4″ seam.

bedside-pocket-step-5
Tuck the long end under your mattress or use a strong magnet inside the pockets to hold the pocket in place on a bed rail.

Be patient as you wait through this milestone.  Bedwetting is more common than most people think, 1 in 6  children ages 4-12 have one wet night a week.  It isn’t anything you or they are doing wrong.  Though you can rest easy tonight with GoodNites!  The #1 night time protection brand that looks and feels like real underwear.  Plus keep up to date with current coupons (while supplies last, coupons live during certain periods). I saved $2 off on GoodNites at Walmart.

What a neat DIY! I like that you can use it with the toddler bedrails. .#client
