Aiden loves a good playdate; and I love that I get to host friends and family. One of the benefits to being a blogger is the opportunity to work with fantastic companies and share their product with our group. We recently had a few moms, grandmas, and kiddos over for a little playdate. We tried out some new salads, let the kids play, and Aiden collected a few toothbrushes for his service project.
I used to fuss about what to serve; slaving over the stove making fresh baked goods, and making sure we had a good spread. After a few playdates I realized most kids are interested in playing, and doing a little grab and go snacking. Swing by the snack table grab a handful mouthful of food and run back to playing. Other than my pumpkin bread I was always had leftovers. This doesn’t mean snacking has to be boring. Something simple can be creatively prepared and displayed.
We found a better alternative, something healthy, but something everyone could eat while playing. Both Zipzicles and Shamrock Farms sent some product for our group to try out. They fit right in with my simple and healthy eating theme.
-Dress up your serving wear. We used plastic spades we picked up for $.25/50 and added a little washi tape.
-Serve finger foods and spice it up with a variety of dips. We love the new flavored sour cream from Shamrock Farms. My favorite? Jalapeño!
-Keep the mess low. For the younger crowd, pick up some reusable sippy cups. They cost just a couple bucks and you can send them home after the play date.
-I LOVE washi tape. Use it to label gift bags.
-Serve up healthy push pops. Zipzicles are the perfect party vessel. They have a place to label the flavor or at a party the kiddos name. They zip up so kids can save them for later.
-Save money and invest in reusable party ware. Now is the time to pickup plastic ware at the stores. We found plates for $1/4, strawberry baskets $1/2, and veggie trays for $.75.
This is our favorite Zipzicle recipe, Blueberry Chia! Chocked full of antioxidants, omegas, and tastes delicious. My son can’t have artificial dyes so I love that I can provide him with a delicious treat. And checkout that color. So much prettier than Blue Dye No. 4.
