For Aiden’s first SIMPLE Service project he got all our family and friends involved. I love working with Collective Bias® because they work with their clients to sponsor posts like this to bring awareness and do good in our community.
It all started with a call to our family and friends on Facebook. The cause? Spin into Action, one of many causes mobilizing millions as part of Champions for Kids. An organization that is all about rallying communities to provide comfort, hope, and fun in the face of challenging situations. We had about a week and a half to collect and finished off the campaign with a total of 19 toothbrushes and 11 tubes of toothpastes donated on top of other items our family purchased for donation.
Tips for a successful collection drive:
Host a playdate/party and ask guests to bring an item. We focused our donations on toothbrushes and toothpaste.
Offer to pickup donations from friends and family members.
Send out a call to action to do some “spring” cleaning. We use an electric toothbrush so our dentist toothbrushes get put in a back stock drawer for emergencies. That’s 6 toothbrushes a year for us; now we know what to do with them.
Use coupons to save money and make a bigger impact. Walmart had Spinbrush toothbrushes for $3 after promotions.
Check to see if there is a wish list and make your donation last.
We had a few causes in mind to donate to, but settled on Ronald McDonald House at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. We were drawn to this charity as our young cousin (pictured above) and my husband, as a young adult, spent time at PCH. We felt their mission was right in line with Spin into Action’s.
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Phoenix is a welcoming “home away from home” for families with children facing medical challenges, providing an atmosphere of comfort, hope and courage.
Spin Into Action for children in your community!
1. GATHER your community to collect fun toys and colorful children’s items (like books, games, blankets, and toothbrushes)!
2. COUNT the number of items you collected and take photos!
3. DONATE the items to a local hospital, shelter, or foster care agency in your community to give kids hope, comfort, and fun in challenging situations.
4. DOUBLE your impact by reporting your project at championsforkids.org/share during the month of July 2013. Let us know how many people were involved and how many items you collected, and Spinbrush® will make a matching donation of up to 1,000 Tooth Tunes™ toothbrushes (total) through Champions for Kids to help children in need!
Know the facts. Not every child has the opportunity to receive good dental care. Tooth decay is the number one childhood disease affecting close to 60% of children. The cost of toothpaste and a toothbrush is relatively low and something that can make a world of difference in a child’s life and overall health.
