Schoolhouse Party Theme | Healthy Essentials for No Sick Days

This is the time of year where everyone, especially parents are hyper aware of the germs lurking around.  We do our best to wash our hands, avoid crowds, and support our immune system, but it still happens.  And let’s be honest the one place we think of synonymous with germs is school, and there’s just no avoiding it.  Back to school season brings the germs, but with the help of some essentials we were prepared.

So to celebrate the end to a great quarter in health and school I put together this fun schoolhouse party theme.  It would be an adorable birthday or back to school party too, but for us was the ultimate way to get together before the hustle and bustle of the holiday season.  It’s the perfect time to refresh on good habits to stay healthy for the school year, including stocking up on supplies to help fight those germs and stay comfortable when illness inevitably strikes.

Stick with simple school supplies, bright colors, and school ready textures and patterns.  Look around your home for items you can easily incorporate to add depth and height to your party setup.  Or pick up items that can be repurposed or reused for future gatherings.

For serving I like to pick a theme and stick with it throughout the tablescape.  For this party I utilized clear containers as I wanted everything visible to add to the schoolhouse theme.  Apples are piled into a hurricane jar wrapped with yardstick ribbon.  Milk jars are filled with a refreshing drink as if straight from the school cafeteria. Pretzel sticks and alphabet crackers scream preschool snack time.

 
The banner is simply flashcards attached to twine with washi tape.  I layered the banner with one string of alphabet cards and another with addition cards.  Don’t they add to the classic schoolhouse feel?!

I utilized some of the goody bag supplies to add to the tablescape.  This makes it fun and easy for the kids to grab their favorites to add to a brown paper bag to cart home.

It’s important to safeguard not only our children, but also ourselves.  Kids go to school and kids sometimes bring those germs home.  Back to school season brings on it’s own challenges with full schedules too.  Between school pickup and after school activities we sometimes forget the essentials like eating well and sleeping.  So, I stuffed some fun goodie bags full of healthy essentials.

The tongue depressor puzzle was a simple DIY that added a bit of fun to the kids school essentials goody bag.  They were super simple to throw together and also added an activity element to the party.  You could also print out black and white photos, let the kids color, and assemble them with these easy steps.

1. Print out image and cut to size (~4″x6″).
2. Line 6 tongue depressors in a row.
3. Coat the back of your image with school glue, press onto sticks.
4. Allow the image to dry, then cut apart using a rotary cutter.
