It’s not me it’s him, really, it’s my son. He refuses to eat anything orange. In fact tonight he proceeded to gag, cough, and even present me with the offending orange food I served to him. When I tried to serve it in a different form he took one look at it and turned up his nose.
What’s the big deal you ask? Well think of all the nutritional value stored in carrots and sweet potatoes. In our house we don’t subscribe to the “eat everything on your plate” or “I’m not going to make you something else” philosophy. If he won’t eat it we’ll try something else. He will, however see the same thing laid out in front of him later in the week because we do believe in the “just keep offering it” method. The thing is he used to love sweet potatoes, carrots, and butternut squash. In fact these same vegetables were his favorite first foods. I have evidence of me making fresh “orange” baby food and him eating bathing in it.
Now, most moms would move on; try something new, but the problem is I’m the picky eater in the house. I’m the one that won’t try something new. I tasted my first whole strawberry the other day. Love puree, but can’t stand the texture of the whole fruit. Anyways, the point being what’s a mom to do when you’ve tried whole, cooked, raw, mashed, smashed, even fry shaped carrots and he just won’t eat it. I’ll just keep offering it to him in any form I can. Who knows it took me 27 years to eat a strawberry, maybe it will only take him 7 to eat a carrot.

*One thing I like to do is cook and puree carrots to add to my fresh spaghetti sauce. It adds a bit of sweetness and most of the time I don’t have to add any extra sugar.
