Because we just signed our son up for a new school, I thought slipping in this easy backpack survival pouch was a nice surprise for the first week of school. No sewing required for this project. Just the pattern, some scissors for cutting, felt, and a clasp.

Print out the attached envelope pattern. Cut along the lines, then match up the A, B, & C labeled arrows. Tape the pieces together to form the full pattern.

Place the pattern on top of the felt. I selected a premium felt that had some density and stiffness to it.

Carefully cut around the pattern.

Fold in the sides first, then the bottom.

Position your clasp on to the top flap where you want it. Press firmly to leave indents where the clasp will attach. These will be your cut marks. Attach, slide the back plate on, and fold the prongs over.

To cover up the prongs, hot glue a button that is slightly larger than the clasp on top.

Attach the bottom half of the clasp to the top. Fold the flap over and press firmly so the prongs leave an indent.

Cut two small slits in this position through the 3 layers of the felt (bottom and side flaps). Slip the prongs through all 3 layers starting with the top. Slide the backplate on, bend prongs, and press.
