DIY Holiday Shadow Box

Black Friday officially welcomes Christmas season at our home.  Thanks to Oriental Trading I had a few new items to add to my mantle.  They sent me a box full of joy to get crafty with.  All thoughts and ideas are my own.  I had fun crafting up this easy DIY holiday shadow box this year.

The tree goes up, wreaths adorn the doors, and seasonal chotchkies fill every available space.  There are those items that have been passed on, but every year it’s fun to create something new to add to the holiday line up. This holiday shadow box has quickly become a family favorite, and another one of those easy holiday crafts that only requires simple skills; a little painting, cut, and paste.  Who doesn’t love a craft that comes together in under an hour.  With just a few supplies your favorite holiday knick knacks have a new home.

Directions:
Paint the inside of each box.  No need to paint the back of the cube, we’ll cover that up late with paper.

Paint the outside edges of the box with black.  Use a thin stiff brush to get a crisp edge.

Trace the shape of the house onto scrapbook paper, cut.

Place scrapbook template over the top of the wood house.  Working top down, mark the edge of each box.  Cut.  You’ll need to cut the outer edges short to account for the trim.

Place a few strips of glue tape to the back of each piece.

All that’s left to do is find your favorite holiday memories to add.  Our house is on the smaller end so we choose to fill with a few tiny ornaments, pinecones, bells, and a fun wooded candy cane.

Finish off your holiday mantle with a few trees.  We loved this felt tree from Oriental Trading.  A little rustic whimsy to go with the rest of our country inspired holiday home.
