There’s something about the holidays that call for festive treats.  We all have our family favorites, but it’s fun to craft up a little Christmas whimsy and cheer too.  There are so many fun ways to dress up NUTTER BUTTER Cookies; like fun reindeer, snowmen, and even jolly ‘ole Saint Nick cookies.  I was originally going to turn my cookies into a penguin or one of those classic holiday icons, but my husband had an epiphany.  He has those a lot of those, but this time it was good, REALLY GOOD!  The classic peanut shaped NUTTER BUTTER Cookies are perfect for holiday lights.  And, what’s a tree without lights?  So here you have everything you need to dress up your holiday treats table with holiday light and ornament cookies.

Supplies:
NUTTER BUTTER Cookies
NUTTER BUTTER Rounds Cookies
melting chocolate (milk or dark)
candy melts
piping bags or bottles

Directions:
Melt your chocolate according to the package directions. Make sure to heat slowly and not to overheat; once chocolate separates it’s near impossible to fix. You can add a little baking oil to thin out the consistency if necessary. I found some of the colors didn’t melt the same and need a little extra moisture. Heat one color at a time.

Dip one end in the colored candy melts, up to the top of the curve. Place on a wax paper lined cooling rack. Allow to harden, the freezer is your friend in this case. A warm kitchen makes setting slow. Pop it in the freezer for 5-10 minutes until hardened. Allow to reach room temperature before dipping in the next step. The cooled chocolate can be warm on the inside still causing some condensation on the outside of the chocolate. This will make it difficult for the next dip to stick and set.

Place the opposite end of the cookie into melted chocolate. Place on a cooling rack in freezer to set.

For the rounds, it’s easiest to dip with the aid of a toothpick. It keeps things from getting messy. Alternatively you can use a fork or spoon, but I find the toothpick method gives the cookie an even coating.

Dip cookies into the melted chocolate.  Using a spoon to help coat all sides and the top.

Transfer cookies to lined cooling rack to dry.  Don’t forget to remove the toothpick, I’m speaking from experience.

While the rounds set, prepare your candy melts. Melt according to package directions. Transfer melted candy to a piping bag or use a heat safe bag to melt in the microwave or with warm water.

Snip the end of the bag and decorate. Allow cookies to set on a lined cooling rack.

I love a good no-bake recipe and NUTTER BUTTER Cookies makes it easy to get creative.  Transform a delicious cookie into a festive treat perfect for gifting or cookie exchanges.  Serve them up on a decorative platter with twine or edible licorice rope. You could even place them on a lollipop stick to dip them.  Then, wrap them up in a cellophane bag or create a lovely edible arrangement.

A plate of my favorite new cookies plus my molasses cookies made it to the teacher’s lounge at my husband and son’s school yesterday.  What kinds of treats are you making up this season?
