An update has been long over due. These boys are growing like weeds and discovering new things everyday. I’ve come to a decision they aren’t allowed to have birthdays anymore. Just like many women struggle with 30, 40… This mom can’t wrap her head around 1 and 4.
So we can have the cake, the ice cream, the celebration, but my boys will forever be 3 and 11 months. Sure exciting milestones and memories lie ahead I just need to hold onto my little boys a little longer. One becomes two and four becomes five and I can’t imagine my boys heading off to school.
If it wasn’t bad enough that Emerson quickly grew out of his newborn clothes and shot right into a size bigger now he’s jamming through big milestones like crawling and standing. And I shutter to think walking. He is talking up a storm these days. Has mom and dada mastered. When he hears my voice or wants me, he will hold out his arms and chant mom. This past week he added a new sound, but I’m not sure of the meaning yet. It’s a guttural sound like ga, sounds like a Bostonian saying car.
He loves hitting things together and patting on things. The other day he was knocking two plastic balls together and I swear with how perfect the rhythm was it was his brother. Guess he got the innate ability for music like dad and Aiden.
Food continues to be an issue. Just as he’ll start to show interest he’ll quickly lose it. When we started on solids his bowel schedule took a 180. From clock work daily to every 7-10 days. This, I guess, is normal for a breastfed baby, but I’m still not convinced that’s all it is. The Dr. right now doesn’t have any concerns, took him in for a special appointment, but I’m keeping detailed notes so we can bring up the issue at our next appointment in a month.
Aiden is changing daily too. While I feel lately emotionally he’s reverting back to two, this happens every year two months out from his birthday he is hitting some big milestones. He is now enrolled in dance and karate, he LOVES both. His Aunt Kristy teaches his combo ballet dance class. He’s just like his momma though. Loves tap and completely engaged when that time comes, but during stretches and ballet (except for across the floor) he is a wild one. Karate he is so focused. Well now, the first time he had his gear and gi he almost got knocked over during sparring. He was checking him self out in the mirror and didn’t realize it was two way. We showed him after class how we saw everything and then that was the last of it.
He is making such huge progress in preschool. He can’t wait for calendar time in the morning and our morning activities and books. About a month ago he was put in quiet time. I told him to recite his ABC’s thinking that would keep him busy. Well little did I know he knew the entire alphabet and knocked that song out in about 30 seconds. He can count to 20 almost completely on his own, skips 14 & 15, but he used to skip 4. He loves reading and being read too. He will read us and brother books unprompted. We use the BOB books, which remind me of the Sam I Am books I learned to read with. He is really good at using the pictures in any story book to make predictions and tell the story.
At what age(s) was it hard for you to accept another birthday, another year older?
