The Arizona Science Center is home to several permanent exhibits, a planetarium, theater, Maker Space, and for a limited time Pompeii: The Exhibition. Until May 28th visitors can extend the learning with this special exhibit with real artifacts from the Roman City of Pompeii!
About Pompeii: The Exhibition
More than 1700 years ago on August 24, 79 A.D., the the Roman city of Pompeii was frozen in time by the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius. The destructive ash and debris remarkably preserved the ancient city. This special exhibit examines life before and after the eruption, as guests take a journey back in time to when Pompeii was a bustling commercial port and strategic military and trading center.
Exhibition Highlights:
- Introductory video about Pompeii.
- Exhibits showing Roman life during the time of the eruption.
- Simulated volcanic eruption in a 4D theater.
- Full body casts of human forms.
*A small, separate section of the exhibition features erotic art in a replica of a Pompeii brothel. Parental discretion is advised for this portion, which is not suitable for all ages.
