I was so excited to be a part of this weeks Bag it Forward with a twist. As a teacher I know all to well the constantly reducing school funds which directly affect classroom supplies and teacher salaries. Never the less
My neighbor teaches for a local district who, as most AZ schools, has experienced deep budget cuts, salary freezes, and often reductions. I haven’t had the pleasure of working with her or had a child in her class, but I do see all the hard-work she puts in. Along with budget cuts comes programs being eliminated taking away from teacher prep time. This translates to late nights at the school and working during the summer. This teacher sets the standard high by getting there early and leaving late. In fact she went into school once a week over her short 6 week summer break. Now that’s a dedicated teacher.
If you missed out on last weeks post you’re probably wondering what Bag it Forward is. Think, every year a letter arrives in the mail rattling off a list of things needed for each student and the classroom. Bag it Forward is about making a student in need feel special by checking a couple things off that list. It’s more than just the individual students, so that’s why this week Elmer’s is making it possible to do the same for teachers and their classroom. You can participate too and help spread the word by uploading pictures of the items you Bagged Forward to the BagItForward website.
This Bag it Forward began with a trip to Walmart to collect some much needed supplies for a hardworking teacher.
Unfortunately there were no huge back to school sales this week, but I was still able to fill the file box to the brim with classroom essentials and a couple fun items from Thirty-One
Germ-X
Colored Pencils
Crayons
Pencils
Rulers
Pens
Sharpies
Scissors
Notebooks
File Box
Kleenex
I was a bit worried about the crayons laying victim to the scorching AZ heat, but the thermal tote solved the problem.
Now it’s your turn. Last week I asked you to go out and support a school drive or student in need. This weeks “homework” is to make a teacher feel special. Save the apple and surprise them with a box of kleenex!
