Crystal Deodorant {review}

10/31/2011

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

If you’ve been around a while on my blog you probably already know my family is doing there best to go Eco and Green.  First and foremost to better our health.  That’s why when I was asked to participate in a review of an all natural deodorant I jumped right up.

I was surprised to find Crystal deoderant comes  in many different forms now.  I remember when they first came out it was purely a raw piece of
crystal you rubbed on your underarm.  These days you can get a roll-on (variety sold at Walmart for just $3.48), spray, classic crystal, stick, and even scented.  Go check out there website, they have so many different varieties, they even have foot deodorant spray.

The appeal obviously for me was the health benefits and the avoidance of putting chemicals on my body that will inevitably be absorbed.  Crystal deodorant only has 3 ingredients: Purified Water (Aqua), Natural Mineral Salts (Potassium Alum), and Cellulose.  All of which I can pronounce and know their origins.  Crystal is a deodorant meant to mask and prevent odor causing bacteria.  Antiperspirants use chemicals to inhibit the activity of sweat glands.  They are monitored closely by the FDA for this very reason as they are given a drug classification.  Common chemicals found in antiperspirants are Parabens, traces found in Breast tumors, and Aluminum Chlorhydrate, a neurotoxin.

I was a bit of a sceptic though.  I have struggled to find the right deodorant/antiperspirant for years.  In fact, I switch frequently between brands.  It seems after a couple months of using a specific brand they loose their effectiveness.  I wasn’t sure Crystal was going to be able to meet my high demands.  Last thing you want is stink.

I wore my deodorant for a whole day and surprisingly their was very little odor.  I wouldn’t give it an A+ as I did have some odor by mid-day; nowhere comparable to going sans deodorant though.  I’m willing to give it another week or so and might like to try the version with scent.  That scent might mask the mild odor I experienced.  I think though for a natural deodorant it has almost made the grade for me.

You can find Crystal on Facebook and Twitter.  Don’t forget to print out your
$1.00 off coupon before heading to the store.
