What a fantastic run to have as our first. In fact I don’t think I can run a non Disney event. 4,000 people packed in around the hub in front of the castle waiting for the run to start. A live DJ playing music while characters cheered us on. The atmosphere itself was motivating. Not to mention the costumes. It was a night run so we started at 10:30 pm. I was a little worried how I would do so late, but I LOVED it. The weather was perfect, minus the wind. There was no hot sun beating down on us, and the air was cool.
The pace of the run was leisurely. We had to keep a 17 minute mile pace to not get picked up. We finished the race below my goal of 45 minutes at 43:45. That’s about a 14 minute mile. I was training about 12 minute miles, but that was just one. I’m hoping my next one I can shave off about 5 minutes. Thankfully I managed to hold back the tears as we neared the end.
I had such a great support team that was willing to hang back with me. We all crossed the finish line at the same time. We did lose one of our team members, but she spent the race trying to catch up to us; funny enough was far in front. I hate to run, but could imagine doing another Run Disney. JD would like to the 1/2.
